Frequently Asked Questions
  • Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: The number of treatments you require will depend on a variety of factors (general health, nature of complaint, etc). The osteopath will give you an initial estimate of treatment numbers / recovery time on your first appointment.
  • Q: How long does an appointment last?
A: Your first appointment will last around 45 to 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments are usually 30 minutes long.
  • Q: How do I get covered by ACC?
A: The osteopath will discuss your ACC eligibility (whether your problem is accident-related) with you and fill in the forms directly: you don't need to see a GP first. If you already have a claim then please bring your claim details with you. ACC will then fund a portion of your treatment.
  • Q: Do I need X-rays or other tests done?
A: The vast majority of people do not require an X-ray. If you have had one done already for your current complaint, please do bring the films along as it helps the osteopath determine precisely what is going on. Should you do need an X-ray, we can send you for one in due time.
  • Q: Can I bring a friend or a relative with me for support?
A: Yes of course you can. Please be aware that we will be discussing your health and medical details, so it should be someone you are comfortable sharing that information with.
  • Q: Can I sit in with my child's appointment?
A: If a patient is under 16 we generally require the presence of a parent or legal guardian. Once over 16 it is the patient's decision whether to allow anyone in with them.
  • Q: What should I wear to my appointment? (Consultation)
A: You may be asked to undress to your underwear depending on which areas the osteopath needs to examine, so please wear something you are comfortable in.
